Choose the delivery format before choosing compression strength

Compression and conversion should start with the destination, not just the smallest file. Choose Canvas Fast for immediate JPEG, PNG and WebP processing, or WASM Efficient when you need AVIF, BMP, TIFF, SVG or a broader, more consistent conversion path. JPEG, WebP and AVIF work well for most photos; PNG, WebP and AVIF are better when transparent edges matter. Limit pixel dimensions first, then lower quality gradually for lossy output.

Example: prepare a large PNG product image for the web

For a 2400 × 1600 transparent PNG, first decide whether the background needs to remain transparent. Use Canvas Fast for a quick JPEG or WebP draft; choose WASM Efficient if you need an AVIF result or wide-format source support. If transparency must remain, choose WebP, AVIF or PNG. Inspect the product edge, text and shadows, then fine-tune quality for the destination's size limit.
