PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

Decide whether you need animation or a cover before frame processing

GIF re-encoding limits each animation frame to the selected 64, 128 or 256 color range, so file size and color detail need a deliberate trade-off. Start with Keep Detail, Web Balanced or Share Smaller to get an appropriate baseline, then inspect the visible crop area and tune dimensions, speed or colors. If the final asset is only a page cover or static share image, a transformed first-frame PNG is often a better fit than another GIF.

Example: crop an animation for social media and slow it down

Choose the GIF and inspect its frame count, dimensions and duration. Begin with Web Balanced, then adjust the visible crop area and maximum dimensions for the platform, rotating by 90 degrees if needed. Choose 0.5× or 1.5× speed, generate a GIF, and inspect the full playback. Switch to Share Smaller if the result still exceeds the size limit; if you only need a cover, export the first-frame PNG instead.

No. GIF parsing, frame composition, transformation, re-encoding and download stay in the current browser worker.

Does the animation remain animated?

Yes. Generate GIF re-encodes all supported animation frames. The static image tools intentionally read only the first GIF frame.

Why are there frame and pixel limits?

Frame-by-frame GIF work uses significant browser memory. GIF Studio currently supports up to 120 frames, 16 megapixels per frame and 120 megapixels across all frames.

How does GlobalCoreHub handle data in GIF Studio?
